I don't believe anything is completely random. But I also have no clue how my brain works. I'm sitting here at work and suddenly the song from "Song of the South" (which I mostly know from the Splash Mountain ride at Disneyland) just pops in there. "How do you do? Mighty pleasant greetin!" haha. So, I youtube it. You know, the thing you do to find music or video just like you google information.
Ahh, the wonders of youtube never cease. You can relive rides at Disneyland on there now. Of course in the side bar was a link to some Pirates of the Caribbean ride videos. Youtube videos after the break...
I've noticed somewhat of a trend while driving. Tell me if it's all in my head or if there is some substance to my observations:
I get this impression that a lot of women have a need to constantly be talking to people. The other day I was stopped at a stop light and I kid you not, like 3 cars in a row of women drivers turned left passing in front of me and they were ALL on their cell phones, like they were glued to them. Are they needy? Insecure? Can't handle just driving with some music? Or are they trying to escape the kids in the back seat? (this one I could understand... maybe they don't get enough adult conversation otherwise, but not all of the offending women necessarily seem old enough to have kids).
What gives? I mean I see guys on their phones driving too from time to time, but I don't get this feeling that it's for the same reasons. I'd rather not be on the phone while driving-- I keep conversations as short as I can if someone calls or I for some reason need to make a call. But these women... I just get the impression they just have a need to be talking.
Anyways, there's your random, pointless, non-constructive rant for the week ;)

This is Bandit, the neighbor's pit bull puppy. Just too adorable not to post...
I was talking to Mar today about dogs a little bit, and she was mentioning how Americans love dogs. I think one of the factors is that dogs are so ridiculously cute when they're puppies... not just looks-wise but also personality wise. I still remember when we first got Indy, and Steve would be sitting at the table and if someone had Indy in their arms standing behind Steve, he'd lean over and just start munching on Steve's fro. Puppies are just so playful and cute... you fall in love with them, and even when they're older and not as cute, they're loyal to you and you still love em from when they were puppies.
I like how this picture turned out. I really wish it had been taken with a nicer camera tho... I need to get back into photography.
I find it interesting that of all the mundane, pointless things I *could* blog, I seem to have the impulse to write when I'm rudely awoken in the morning before I'd like to be.
The alarm was set for 8:30 (yeah I know-- I'm lazy). About 6 am I become conscious and gradually aware that there is a high pitched mechanical chirp sounding at intervals of a minute or so. Crap. We had a problem with our cO2 detectors a while back where they'd chirp at odd hours and need to be reset. This wasn't one of them, though. This was the smoke detector in my room, therefore not ignorable. Guh. Closer inspection reveals that it's simply that the battery needs to be replaced. Why couldn't it have waited a few hours to start chirping?
After rummaging unsuccessfully for a fresh 9-volt battery, I resolved to go to the grocery store at 6:15 in the morning (I don't know if I've ever written out the word "rummage" before. Looks kinda weird, but what a cool word). Once there, I grabbed a couple 9-volt batteries and then figured I'd make use of the trip and get some fresh OJ (I'm sort of addicted to this Tropicana stuff that's NOT made from concentrate... it really does taste like the picture on the front of it of an orange with a straw sticking out-- like I'm drinking a fresh, sweet orange in liquid form).

mmm... Amazing, Straight-from-the-Orange Taste
I know I choose my attitude. This morning I'm choosing to be a little grumpy (how appropriate that the hat I put on to go to the store was my Grumpy hat I got from Disneyworld a few years back.) At least I have that Amazing, Straight-from-the-Orange Taste to look forward to. And got to use the word "rummage".
Alright. I don't know what made me think of this today but this one cracks me up. Especially Wonder Woman:
So, I'm in Kanab on a short work-related trip. I'm staying at this "apartment" that's attached to the manufacturing facilities here where I'll be training a few people on some software. "Apartment" is a modest name for it. It's like a really nice condo-- nicer than any of the hotels I've been put up in during any work-related traveling. So anyways, my phone rings at about 6:30am. I didn't know what time it was so I just answered it, and there was no one there-- just the occassional bit of static. Not sure who would call me that early in the morning, but rather than being grumpy about being woken an hour or 2 early, I'd just like to thank them for the wake-up call. The picture above is why-- it was perfect timing to see the sunrise, and I have a nice view from the balcony outside my guest room. Made the trip down that much more worth it :)
I really enjoyed the drive down, too. I have driven this route maybe once or twice before-- last time I was a passenger and it was mid-day, and before that I'd only driven through in the middle of the night (on the way to Tucson or Tempe). I don't think I had a clue what I was missing.
The sun was setting when I was about 30-40 miles north of Kanab, and it was just beautiful-- the warm pinkish purple glow in the clouds on the horizon which was only partially visible as I wound through forrested hills listening to some great orchestral music. Just one of those times when you are just fully captivated by how beautiful the world is.
