The Big Apple

Well, I promised Mike I would post pictures of our New York trip, so better late than never.

On Thursday evening, November 17, Melissa, Emily, and I got on a red-eye flight to New York City. We flew into JFK, and our first whirlwind experience was the cab ride from the airport (driver was a guy in a turban) to the city center and our hotel. It was almost surreal to start seeing all those names on the signs of places (like Queens, Brooklyn, etc.) that I’ve only ever heard.

Well, I could probably go on forever about the trip, but since this isn't my personal blog, I won't. But, we did so much fun stuff. We saw Central Park, Grand Central Station, and the Macy’s on 34th Street the first day. Funny moment at Central Park: as we started walking into the park, Melissa tried to call Mom to tell her we’d arrived safely. Well, Dad answered and said Mom was still asleep. So Melissa told him to tell her that we’d arrived safely. He said, “Ok...and where exactly are you?” She said, “Well, we’re in New York City, walking in Central Park!" I could almost hear the "What??" Heehee.

A major highlight of the trip was seeing a musical on Broadway. We saw Wicked - and I have to say that it was one of those moments in life I will never forget. I was literally teary by the end of the first half because it was so incredibly amazing! Wow.

Other highlights were: Rockefeller Center, Radio City Music Hall, eating at Carnegie Deli, shopping in Chinatown, Times Square (and the Chewbacca look-alike and the HUGE Hershey’s store!), site of the World Trade Center, the Statue of Liberty (“She’s a harbor chick!”), the Brooklyn Bridge, eating lots of yummy food (New York pizza and bagels and cheesecake!) and just plain taking the subway to get around. Made me miss Paris because really, most big cities are a lot alike.

Anyhow, it was a super fun trip, and quite the adventure. Thanks to Em for arranging it all. I’d go again anytime!

At the Gershwin Theater for Wicked.

The site of the World Trade Center. (Or Ground Zero, as people keep calling it.)

Guess what - not only is the Statue of Liberty a French statue, but her internal structure was designed by none other than Mr. Eiffel himself. (Which made me feel better for always calling her the Eiffel Tower.)

The Hersheys store at Times Square even had Hershey-kissed shaped light fixtures. Mmmm...

What the...
